Flora of Montserrat

About

I am an assistant professor of environmental science at Bard College at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, USA. My first trip to Montserrat, W.I. was in 2017 when I taught a field botany course for Simon's Rock's Ecology and Sustainability Studies on Montserrat signature program. In preparation for that course I discovered how poorly documented the flora of the island really was. This was the catalyst for my floristic research on Montserrat. The goal of this website is to provide useful information rapidly.

Many people have helped with my project, and I would like to express my gratitude to all of them. Particular recognition for people from Montserrat is due to the Montserrat's Department of the Environment, Ms. Ernestine Corbett, Mr. Stephen Mendes, and Mr. Philemon "Mappie" Murraine, and from Bard College at Simon's Rock recognition is due to Provost and Vice President John Weinstein, Dean of Faculty Brendan Mathews, Dr. Thomas Coote, Dr. Sarah Snyder, Dr. Robert Schmidt, Dr. Michael Berman, Giulia de Gennero, Asha Keck, Adelaide Mullin, and my students from our signature program on Montserrat from 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023.

Lastly I would like to than you for your interest in the flora of Montserrat.

Dr. Donald McClelland
