Interactive Multimedia

"As a dynamic aspect of contemporary culture, multimedia (defined here as the computer-assisted integration of images, motion, sound, text and interactivity) has attracted a great deal of attention. In education, entertainment, business, and many other arenas, interactive multimedia is rapidly becoming an indispensable tool. But it is more than just a tool; it is a new art form. Just as film revolutionized the arts in the 20th century by providing a new means of expression, interactive arts will have an incalculable impact on the 21st.

New links among the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences are now possible, as new forms of scholarship and academic publishing develop. For scholars presenting complex material with dynamic elements, the new medium offers holistic and flexible forms of representation." (from my lecture/demonstration at Wesleyan University 3/5/95)

Every Spring semester I offer Interactive Arts Workshop, a course in which we master the tools, techniques, and perspectives that extend from the traditional arts into the digital arts.

"Interactive multimedia is the first Western commuication form to represent oral traditions effectively." - Dr. Saskia Kersenboom, Associate Professor in Linguistic Anthropology, University of Amsterdam
