OUR UNDERTAKING IS TO EXPLORE TOGETHER SOME OF THE THEORETICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL UNDERPINNINGS WHICH STRUCTURE BOTH THINKING AND PRACTICE IN THE ART OF SOCIAL CONSCIENCE. TOPICS WILL INCLUDE SUCH SUBJECTS AS: THE 'MEANING' OF POLITICAL ART IN A POST-MODERN DISCOURSE; THE RELATIONSHIP OF POLITICS TO THE CREATIVE PROCESS; THE ROLE OF ARCHITECTURE AS "POLITICAL" "SOCIAL" PRACTICE; THE IMPACT OF INSTITUTIONS (CORPORATIONS, MUSEUMS, MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION, TECHNOLOGY) ON THE DEMOCRATIC AND RADICAL POTENTIAL OF PROTEST ART.

Select a topic, or work of art, literature, film or other media which addresses or evokes an issue which has particular resonance for you and bring it to class. Give some thought of how the essence of this idea might be presented in graphic terms. Keep in mind that the collograph is a medium which creates an embossiing and , in its simplist form has no color and that lines are more difficult to execute. This means that your designs hould be conceived in form.rather than line. Don't worry if you get stuck developing a "form" for your ideas ...just bring your ideas to class and we will work on them together.
